Mistral, Frédéric
► (1830-1914) Poeta francés en lengua provenzal. El federalismo europeo tiene en él a uno de sus grandes inspiradores. Su labor fue sobre todo idealista y cultural como demuestra Lou tresor dou Félibrige, vasta recopilación de las lenguas de oc. En 1859 publicó su gran poema épico Mireia. Son notables sus Memorias, publicadas en 1906. Fue premio Nobel de Literatura en 1904.

Poeta francés. Líder del renacimiento del provenzal en el s. XIX, Mistral fue cofundador de Félibrige, una influyente asociación que tenía por fin conservar las costumbres y el idioma de la Provenza y posteriormente de todo el sur de Francia. Dedicó 20 años de su vida a la creación de un diccionario erudito del provenzal. Su producción literaria consta de poemas líricos, cuentos, Moun espelido: Memori è raconte [Mis orígenes: memorias y relatos] (1906), su obra más conocida, y extensos poemas narrativos, entre ellos Mireya (1859) y Lou pouémo dóu rose [El poema del Ródano] (1897), sus dos grandes obras. En 1904 compartió el Premio Nobel de Literatura con José Echegaray.
